02A/02J Manual Transmission 0.658 Ratio 5th Gear Set

The OE VW .658 5th gear set provides a taller final gear ratio for enthusiasts looking to lower engine RPMs during highway cruising. By replacing the stock .756 5th gear ratio found in many North American TDI models from 1996 through 2003, this kit allows for a 13% reduction in cruising revs. The kit is compatible with Volkswagen 02A, 02B, and 02J manual transmissions. Each set includes the necessary 41-tooth large gear (02Z311158A), the 27-tooth small gear (02Z311361A), and the correct spring plate, ensuring no additional modification of existing spring plates is required for installation. While compatible with many MK4 vehicles, users should note that cruise control functionality may be lost on North American BEW-motored models. This gearset is also confirmed to function in MKV Jetta TDI vehicles without issues. Because this modification results in a taller gear, it is best suited for highway driving; frequent shifting may be required during in-town usage in stock vehicles. A transmission cover gasket is not included but is recommended for the installation process.
