1-Piece Aluminum Driveshaft

The 1000 HP DSS-GTOSH2-A-04 is a 1-piece aluminum driveshaft specifically engineered for the 2004 Pontiac GTO. This driveshaft offers a significant upgrade over the factory 2-piece unit by providing a direct bolt-on solution that simplifies installation and enhances performance. Key to its design is the integrated 7075-T6 aluminum conversion flange, which bolts directly to the differential's 3-finger flange. This innovative approach eliminates the need to remove and tamper with the differential's original rear flange, thereby preserving crucial pinion depth and gear engagement settings that are critical for crush collar-type differentials. The driveshaft itself is constructed from lightweight, high-strength aluminum, measuring 3.500 inches in diameter and capable of handling up to 997 lb-ft of torque. The process involves unbolting the stock 2-piece driveshaft and installing the new 1-piece aluminum unit using the supplied hardware. A minor modification, such as grinding down the tip of the rear seatbelt bolt that protrudes into the driveshaft tunnel, may be required to ensure adequate clearance. This upgrade is noted for providing a more immediate and refined driving experience, characterized by improved throttle response and a smoother power delivery.
