The JL Audio 12W3v3-2 is a 12-inch subwoofer driver engineered to deliver tight, clean, and articulate bass in space-saving sealed or ported enclosures. Its DMA-optimized motor and suspension minimize distortion, while the durable mineral-filled polypropylene cone with a rubber surround ensures powerful low frequencies. A metallic JL Audio medallion adds a premium finish. This subwoofer boasts a 1000-watt peak power handling and 500 watts RMS power handling with a 2-ohm impedance. It is optimized for a compact 1.25 cubic feet sealed enclosure or a 1.75 cubic feet ported enclosure. The 12W3v3-2 is designed for smooth, precise cone movement at various power levels, with exclusive cooling technology for reduced distortion and enhanced durability. Customization options include a removable mounting flange trim ring that can be painted to match a vehicle's interior, and optional steel-mesh grille inserts are available for added protection and style (sold separately). The driver is not designed for free-air installations due to its compliance parameters (Qts of 0.50) and requires an enclosed space to prevent over-extension and potential damage. When installing, it's important to note that the nominal impedance is 2 Ohms, but a multimeter will typically read around 1.66 Ohms DC resistance. To avoid physical bottoming out of the voice coil, it's recommended to set your amplifier's subsonic filter to match the enclosure tuning. Using amplifiers with RMS power exceeding the 500-watt limit can be risky and may lead to overheating or damage.
