12" Oval Subwoofer

The Boston Acoustics SPG555 is an innovative subwoofer engineered for exceptional performance and durability. Its distinctive oval or "racetrack" shape allows it to fit within the mounting depth of a typical 10" woofer while offering the cone area of a larger 12" unit, directly translating to greater output capabilities. This design makes it suitable for a wide range of vehicle installations, including those with limited space such as Jeep Wranglers. At its core, the SPG555 boasts a 1000-watt continuous RMS power handling, achieved through a combination of a 3.5-inch patented Removable Voice Coil (RVC) and Boston Acoustics' patented RadialVent™ cooling system. This integrated chassis venting acts as forced air cooling, enabling the voice coil to handle higher power levels without overheating. The RVC system also allows for easy replacement of the coil assembly by a dealer if damaged or for re-configuring system impedance. Further enhancing its unique design is the SPS™ (Soft Part System), which permits the entire cone/spider/surround assembly to be swapped out if damaged. The woofer employs a powerful neodymium magnet, providing substantial magnetic energy while keeping the overall weight to just 26 pounds, significantly less than conventional ferrite magnet motors. For customizers, the SPG555 can be fully disassembled, allowing the cast aluminum basket to be plated or painted, and the removable dustcap can be re-oriented for aesthetic flexibility. Technically, the SPG555 features an injection-molded mica-filled polypropylene cone, a UV-treated foam and progressive polyester/cotton spider, and integrated tinsel leads. The 3.5-inch voice coil is wound on a Kapton former using copper-clad aluminum windings to reduce mass. The subwoofer is versatile, performing well in enclosures ranging from 1 cubic foot sealed designs to high-efficiency ported configurations.
