The Sundown Audio M12D1 is a 12-inch subwoofer engineered to deliver intense bass and exceptional low-frequency performance with minimal distortion. As part of Sundown's "entry-level" Mega series, it utilizes custom-tooled, patented frames and their signature Mega-Roll surround. The subwoofer is built around a quad-stacked 200mm (7.87-inch) diameter motor structure, complemented by a hyper-extended pole and extreme clearances, enabling substantial excursion. This subwoofer boasts a 3-inch diameter, 4-layer round wire aluminum voice coil wound on a robust aluminum former. This design facilitates an impressive 35mm of one-way linear excursion, a testament to its high-stroke capabilities. Sundown has integrated an advanced ventilation system, including a high-velocity pole vent, a heavily vented magnetic gap through the back-plate, and proprietary cast-aluminum frame-base venting to manage heat effectively during demanding use. The M12D1 is designed for flexibility, excelling in small, ported enclosures while also offering possibilities for sealed and IB (Infinite Baffle) applications, a capability not found in previous Mega platform subwoofers. Its incredibly linear suspension, featuring the Sundown Mega-Roll surround and proprietary Sundown PG linear suspension, ensures low-frequency extension and minimal distortion. Additionally, it includes an aluminum shorting ring within the magnet structure to further enhance inductive distortion performance. Specifications for the M12D1 include 2000 Watts RMS power handling, 4000 Watts peak power, a dual 1-Ohm impedance, and a mounting depth of 10.88 inches. The displacement is 0.21 cubic feet.
