14.8 Volt GM Style Internal Regulator Alternator

The JS Alternators high-output alternator is engineered for a direct fit into the stock location of your 1997-1998 Chevrolet K1500 equipped with the 6.5L engine. This unit is not a simple plug-and-play replacement, as it utilizes a 14.8 Volt GM Style Internal Regulator with a one-wire connection. For charging at a specific voltage setpoint, alternative voltage regulators are available for separate purchase. Consequently, a 1/2" to 1" shorter belt is required for proper installation. To support the increased power output, an upgrade to your vehicle's wiring, such as the Big 3 Wiring Upgrade Kit, is mandatory. It is recommended to use 1/0 100% copper wires for this upgrade. Installation requires disconnecting the battery, removing the old alternator and belt, mounting the new unit, and installing the correctly sized shorter belt. Ensuring proper chassis grounding is crucial, especially on unibody vehicles, and may require additional steps. All electrical wiring must be kept at least 12" away from heat sources to prevent fire hazards. For optimal performance, it is highly recommended to install a dash-mounted volt gauge.
