The Redhead steering gear is a replacement steering box designed for 1997–2000 GM pickup trucks, Escalades, Suburbans, Tahoes, and Yukons. It features a 15:1 ratio with 3 turns lock-to-lock to restore precise vehicle steering control.

The Redhead steering gear provides a reliable solution for addressing common steering issues such as play, wander, and slop in 1997–2000 GM trucks and SUVs. Each unit is built in the USA and features a refined internal design: the housings are machined and fitted with needle bearings, sector shafts are straightened on a lathe, and the worm and piston assembly utilizes custom, oversized ball bearings for improved performance. The sealing surface is polished to prevent leaks, and new control valves are installed on specific applications. Compatibility is limited to 1997–2000 GM pickup trucks, Escalades, Suburbans, Tahoes, and Yukons. Please note that this 3-turn model is not intended for high-response, on-road-only applications where the 2.5-turn quick-ratio gear (part number 2864S-QW-LM) is preferred. The 2.5-turn version is not recommended for vehicles used for off-roading or those running tires larger than 37 inches in diameter. Installation requires careful attention to core return procedures, including draining fluid and utilizing the supplied packaging to ensure core eligibility. A $150 refundable core charge applies to the purchase. The unit features an O-ring fitting design with a small input (25-spline with flat) and a 4-master-spline output (32-spline).
