The Bosch 12317508054 is a 150 amp remanufactured alternator, manufactured in Germany to OE quality standards. This water-cooled unit is a direct replacement for a failing alternator, crucial for powering vehicle systems and maintaining battery charge. A remanufactured alternator from Bosch ensures all internal electrical parts are replaced with new factory components, offering performance equivalent to the original equipment, and often improved longevity due to upgraded parts. Symptoms of a failing alternator include a battery draining while the car is running, low voltage output, dim or flickering lights, and non-functional electrical accessories. Before replacing the alternator, ensure the drive belt is properly tensioned and perform a voltage test with a DVOM. This alternator is compatible with various BMW models including the 540i (1998-2003, 4.4L V8 M62 Gas, Automatic/Manual, Sedan/Wagon), 740i (1998-2001, 4.4L V8 M62 Gas, Automatic Sedan), 740iL (1998-2001, 4.4L V8 M62 Gas, Automatic Sedan), X5 (2000-2003, 4.4L/4.6L V8 M62 Gas, Automatic AWD Sport Utility), and Land Rover Range Rover HSE (2003-2005, 4.4L V8 M62 Gas, Automatic 4WD Sport Utility). For the 1998 BMW 540i and 740i/740iL models, fitment is noted as 'From 9/1998'. An alternator seal (p/n 12317507996) is included with the alternator. Installation does not include a new pulley. Bolt torque specifications for the M6x35mm bolts are 8Nm for grade 8.8 hardware and 12Nm for grade 10.9 hardware.
