Overview

The AFR 185cc SBF Street cylinder head is a performance cylinder head for small block Ford engines. It features 100% CNC ported intake, exhaust, and combustion chambers, constructed from A356 aluminum. This head is designed for 302 and 351W cid engines operating from 1500 rpm to 6500 rpm. It includes 2.020" intake valves and 1.600" exhaust valves with 58cc combustion chambers and 70cc exhaust ports.

The AFR 185cc SBF Street cylinder head is engineered for enhanced performance in small block Ford engines, specifically 302 and 351W displacements. Constructed from A356 aluminum, these heads feature 100% CNC-ported intake runners, exhaust ports, and combustion chambers for optimal airflow. The 185cc intake ports and 70cc exhaust ports are designed to support engine operation from 1500 to 6500 RPM, making them suitable for street and some strip applications. Key specifications include 2.020" intake valves and 1.600" exhaust valves, with a 58cc combustion chamber volume. The head deck is a substantial 3/4" thick, making it well-suited for nitrous or blower applications. This specific model (AFR 1422) is emissions legal for 1995 and older vehicles under CARB EO #D-250-3 and includes provisions for EGR. Important considerations for installation include that these heads are not compatible with OEM pistons and may require aftermarket pistons to be notched for valve clearance. Additionally, 1986 5.0L engines must have pistons notched. Hardened pushrods are required, and the heads will not accept rail rocker arms. It is recommended to use ARP 3/8" rocker studs and adjustable guide plates for proper setup.
