The EMPI Piston & Cylinder Set (98-1957-B) is a critical component for enthusiasts looking to build a high-performance 2276cc stroker engine for VW Type 1 air-cooled applications. This matched set of four pistons and cylinders provides the foundation for a significant displacement increase, utilizing a 94mm bore combined with an 82mm stroke. The kit is comprehensive, including all necessary rings, wrist pins, and clips for the top end. This set is specifically designed to be paired with the EMPI 82mm counterweighted crank (part number 00-8182-0) to achieve the 2276cc displacement. It is important to note that this is a build component and not a direct bolt-in part. Installation requires significant modification to the engine case and cylinder heads. Specifically, the case cylinder spigots and the heads must be machined to accommodate the 94mm bore, and the engine case will need clearancing for the 82mm stroke. This kit is confirmed for use with Type 1 cases that have already been machined for 94mm x 82mm dimensions.
