The Sachs clutch kit is an OEM replacement designed for specific BMW models, including the E36 328i, E39 528i, and Z3 2.8 from model years 1996-1998. This 240mm clutch assembly contains all necessary components for a complete clutch replacement: the clutch disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. Sachs, a division of ZF, is a long-standing OE supplier to BMW, ensuring that the performance, engagement, release, and lifespan of this kit are identical to a genuine BMW clutch. This kit is manufactured using components that are partially made from recycled materials, a common and environmentally friendly practice for organic clutch materials. This process results in a remanufactured or rebuilt kit that offers the same quality and reliability as a new OEM part, but at a lower cost. Sachs backs this clutch with a two-year warranty. When replacing the clutch, it is highly recommended to also replace related components such as exhaust gaskets, transmission seals and bushings, driveshaft mounts, the pilot bearing, and the rear main seal. The condition of the flywheel should also be inspected; while some flywheels can be resurfaced, dual-mass flywheels may require replacement if there is play between the inner and outer masses, as they cannot be resurfaced. Failure symptoms of a worn clutch include slipping under acceleration, difficulty shifting gears, squeaking noises when the pedal is pressed, a spongy or sticky pedal feel, or a burning smell from a slipping clutch.
