The RTMG Performance Hybrid Turbocharger 290EVO offers a significant performance boost for 1.5 TSI EVO engines. This upgraded turbocharger features a large, CNC-machined billet aluminum compressor wheel and a large Inconel turbine wheel, both with precisely machined housings for optimal airflow and efficiency. It is equipped with brand-new bearings and a thrust washer, ensuring durability and performance. The unit is VSR machine balanced to exacting standards and is designed to support applications up to 290 horsepower. For optimal operation and reliability, several factors must be considered. A larger cold air intake is required to efficiently supply air to the turbo. An appropriately sized intercooler capable of handling the increased airflow is necessary. Crucially, proper ECU tuning is essential for both performance and engine longevity, preventing throttle valve closure. Additionally, the catalytic converter should be capable of supporting the increased horsepower, with a 100-cell metallic catalytic converter being a common recommendation. Maintaining stable oil pressure at 5 bar and ensuring the air pressure system is regulated at or above 2 bar are vital to prevent turbo overspeed. A mechanical blow-off valve is also recommended over factory-installed units which may not close properly.
