Overview

The EMPI Front Sway Bar is a 3/4-inch upgrade designed to improve the handling of VW Super Beetles up to 1973. This bar is constructed from zinc-plated steel and includes red urethane bushings. It helps to control body sway and prevent wheel hop during cornering.

Transform the handling characteristics of your classic 1302 or 1303 Super Beetle with the EMPI high-performance 3/4-inch front sway bar. Constructed from high-tensile steel with a corrosion-resistant zinc plating, this sway bar is built for durability. The kit includes high-durometer red urethane bushings, offering superior performance over original rubber by maintaining shape and ensuring direct energy transfer for more immediate steering response and reduced wheel hop. This sway bar fits 1971 through 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle models (Sedan and Convertible) with the MacPherson strut front end configuration only. It is specifically designed for early Super Beetle steering box/strut geometry up to 1973. A stainless steel clamp kit (P/N 00-9692-0) is sold separately. Installation Pro Tip: To prevent squeaking, always apply a liberal amount of silicone-based grease to the urethane bushings. Additionally, for optimal performance and to prevent premature bushing failure, tighten all hardware with the vehicle's suspension at its natural ride height.
