The Chevrolet Performance 1986-Later Style 383 Bare Engine Block is a production-based component designed to provide strength and accuracy for engine builds. It features four-bolt main caps for enhanced durability and a 1-piece rear main seal. This block is ideal for street machines and mild-to-moderate performance builds, supporting a maximum of 450 horsepower. Constructed from cast iron, this bare block is torque plate-honed for superior ring seal and compression. The lifter valleys are machined to accommodate either hydraulic roller or flat tappet valvetrains, and it is clearanced for a 3.800" stroker crankshaft. The cylinder walls maintain a production-spec thickness, and the non-siamesed bores promote effective cylinder-to-cylinder cooling. Key specifications include a 9.025" deck height, a bore range of 4.000" to 4.030", and a wet sump oiling system. This engine block is specifically noted for use on pre-pollution controlled vehicles, defined as 1965 and older U.S. manufactured California certified vehicles, and 1967 and older U.S. manufactured federally certified vehicles.
