The Smeding Performance 383 Short Block serves as a robust base for high-output engine builds, utilizing a heavy-duty 4-bolt main block with a 4.000-inch bore and 9.025-inch deck height. The assembly is anchored by a 4340 forged steel crankshaft with a 3.800-inch stroke, paired with 5140 forged steel I-beam connecting rods featuring 3/8-inch bolts. UEM custom hypereutectic aluminum pistons, which feature coated skirts and a 13.5cc dish, are included to achieve a 10.0:1 compression ratio with 64cc heads or a 9.3:1 ratio with 72cc heads. This package includes a pre-installed camshaft kit—consisting of the camshaft, hydraulic roller lifters, roller timing set, thrust plate, lifter dog bones, and spring tray—along with a sealed-up kit containing the oil pump, welded pick-up, hardened driveshaft, black timing cover, and black oil pan.
