The 3M Products 56599 is a platen pad cover designed for use with orbital platen sanders. It is made of silver cloth with a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing. The cover measures 53 inches long by 10.5 inches wide and comes in roll form.

This platen pad cover protects the surface of the platen pad and functions as a backup pad for abrasive media. Orbital platen sanders use abrasive sheets in an oscillating pattern for sanding or polishing wood products. The cover helps reduce hand sanding typically done after wide belt sanding.
