The EMPI 4-Tip GT Exhaust system offers a distinctive GT style for Volkswagen Type 3 models. Engineered for 1300cc to 1600cc air-cooled engines, this system features four chrome exhaust tips that exit through the factory bumper cutouts, providing a clean, integrated appearance. The exhaust includes a quiet muffler with built-in resonators, contributing to its unique sound profile. Constructed from raw steel, this exhaust system comes without a coating, intended solely to prevent rust during shipping. Installation requires careful attention to tip alignment; ensure the four chrome tips are perfectly centered in the Type 3's rear apron notches before fully tightening the header flange bolts. Adjusting the flange positioning while finger-tight will prevent rattling against the bodywork or bumper. While hardware is included, air-cooled specialists suggest using copper-plated exhaust nuts for installation. Copper nuts are more resistant to seizing under extreme heat cycles compared to standard steel hardware, which facilitates easier future service and reduces the risk of broken exhaust studs. This exhaust is compatible with the Volkswagen Type 3 platform, including the Squareback, Fastback, and Notchback, for 1300cc to 1600cc engines.
