47RE Stage 1 Transmission Package

The ATS Diesel Performance 47RE Stage 1 Transmission Package is a robust upgrade for 1996 to early 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks equipped with the 5.9L Cummins diesel engine and 4WD. This package is engineered to enhance the performance and reliability of the factory 47RE transmission, which transitioned to electronic controls in 1996. Key components of this Stage 1 package include ATS's patented Five-Star billet torque converter, designed for heavy loads and brute power with its 12-bolt cover, five square tab lock-up clutches, and billet stator. The transmission's pump is modified to progressively raise line pressure, ensuring sufficient clamping force for the performance clutch packs. High-performance clutch packs, modified pressure plates (adding one forward and one direct clutch), performance bands, billet band strut, billet accumulator piston, and heavy-duty overdrive bearings are integrated to strengthen the assembly. Further enhancing reliability, the valve body undergoes machining to accept a Teflon sleeve, ensuring precise movement of the throttle valve and preventing sticking issues that can lead to no up-shift conditions. The valve body is also modified for fluid circulation in park, reverse, and neutral, capable of locking the torque converter in any forward gear and increasing line pressure. The package includes the ATS Deep Pan, a finned design that dissipates heat and adds five quarts of fluid capacity over stock, helping to maintain cooler operating temperatures. This Stage 1 package is specifically recommended for trucks with stock to mild power increases, suitable for light towing and daily driving.
