48RE Stage 1 Transmission Package

The ATS 48RE Transmission Package is a robust solution engineered to address the inherent weaknesses of the factory 48RE automatic transmission found in 2003-2007 Dodge Cummins 2500 and 3500 trucks. Recognizing that even stock trucks can overwhelm the original transmission and that minor upgrades often lead to failure, ATS modifies the 48RE to become the strongest and most dependable part of your drivetrain. This Stage 1 package focuses on significantly increasing torque capacity through enhancements to the clutch packs. The Forward, Overdrive, and Overdrive Brake clutch packs receive additional clutch discs, allowing them to handle higher torque loads. ATS utilizes premium Borg Warner and Raybestos clutch materials, known for their high torque strength, longevity, and reliability. The transmission's hard parts are also upgraded, including the replacement of the factory sheet metal strut anchor with a stronger billet strut anchor for more precise band application, and the factory plastic accumulator piston is replaced with a billet unit. A 1:5.0 ratio apply arm works with a Borg Warner Red Lining band featuring performance friction material to handle higher power levels. The valve body undergoes extensive modifications to enhance functionality and performance. Key improvements include the ability to lock the torque converter in 1st and 2nd gear, circulation of transmission fluid in park, reverse, and neutral, machining of the TV valve passage with a proprietary TV valve sleeve to prevent sticking, and increased line pressure. The result is smooth, quick, and crisp shifts that improve drivability on the street and while towing. The Stage 1 package includes the ATS Built 48-RE Auto Trans, an ATS 5 Star Viskus Clutch Drive Torque Converter, and an ATS Extra Deep Transmission Pan. This package is compatible with 2WD and 4WD models from 2003 through early 2004, as well as 2004.5-2007 model years, all equipped with the 5.9L Cummins diesel engine. A minimum of a billet input shaft and flex plate are recommended for optimal performance and reliability.
