48RE Transmission Package

The ATS Diesel Performance 48RE Transmission Package is engineered to significantly strengthen the 48RE automatic transmission, a known weak point in Dodge Cummins trucks, even those in stock configuration. This comprehensive package addresses common failure points by increasing the clutch count in the Forward, Overdrive, and Overdrive Brake clutch packs, enabling much higher torque capacity. It utilizes premium Borg Warner and Raybestos clutch materials, selected for their high torque strength, longevity, and reliability. Critical hard parts are upgraded for enhanced durability and precision. The factory sheet metal strut anchor is replaced with a robust billet strut anchor for more precise band application, and the factory plastic accumulator piston is swapped for a billet unit. The package also includes a 1:5.0 ratio apply arm, which engages a Borg Warner Red Lining performance band featuring a high-power-holding friction material. The valve body undergoes extensive modifications, including the ability to lock the torque converter in 1st and 2nd gear, allowing transmission fluid circulation in park, reverse, and neutral. It also features a machined TV valve passage with a proprietary TV valve sleeve to prevent sticking and increased line pressure for improved performance. These enhancements result in smooth, quick, and crisp shifts, enhancing drivability on the street and while towing. ATS offers this transmission package in multiple stages, from Stage 1 to Stage 6, each with increasing horsepower ratings and component upgrades. For example, a billet input shaft and flex plate are recommended with the more aggressive valve body configurations. The package is compatible with 2003-2007 Dodge 5.9L Cummins 2500 and 3500 models equipped with the 48RE automatic transmission, with specific fitment noted for early 2004 models and both 2WD and 4WD configurations.
