The Nissan FS5W71B is a 5-speed manual transmission that served as an upgrade for earlier 4-speed transmissions like the F4W71B. This transmission is known for its compatibility with the FS5W71C, as they share a similar mid-plane bearing plate shape and bolt pattern, enabling the use of the 240SX's KA engine transmission with the L engine in older Z cars. The front bell housings of the F4W71B and FS5W71B are nearly identical, facilitating their integration. This transmission was a popular choice for enthusiasts seeking an additional gear for improved highway cruising. It was found in various Datsun and Nissan models, including the 1977-1978 280Z, 1979-1983 280ZX, 1977-1984 Datsun/Nissan 200SX, Maxima, and Pickup.
