5L40E/5L50E Transmission Valve Repair Kit

The TransGo 5L4-ACT-VL is a transmission valve body repair kit engineered to restore proper function to GM 5L40E and 5L50E automatic transmissions, specifically targeting wear in the Actuator Feed Limit (AFL) and Pressure Regulator (PR) valve bores. These worn bores are a common cause of performance degradation in transmissions from 2001 and newer Cadillac and BMW vehicles equipped with these units. The kit features precision-ground, hardened steel valves manufactured in the USA. The PR valve includes repositioned, longer lands and an internal exhaust circuit, ensuring both ends of the valve are always supported. This design effectively repairs bore wear, even substantial wear. The oversized AFL valve also features longer lands for enhanced durability. To accommodate the oversized AFL valve, the bore will require reaming, and this kit includes a reusable reamer tool along with two seal protector tools. Wear in the PR valve bore can disrupt transmission line pressure regulation, leading to issues like harsh shifts, soft shifts, burnt frictions, overheating, and converter clutch failure. Similarly, wear in the AFL valve bore can compromise the pressure feed to solenoids. If this feed pressure is too high or too low, it can cause shift valves to malfunction, resulting in wrong gear starts, slipping (especially in 4th and 5th gears), 3rd clutch failure, or ratio codes such as P0731, P0732, P0733, P0734, and P0735. The kit also addresses problems like no movement when hot, oil expulsion from the vent, and drain back issues. This kit is designed as a direct replacement and is compatible with RWD and AWD drive types. Installation requires transmission removal.
