The ATS Diesel 309-544-2380 Stage 4 68RFE Transmission Package is engineered to overcome the limitations of the stock transmission in 2012-2018 4WD RAM 6.7L Cummins vehicles, especially when modifying the engine for higher power levels. The original 68RFE transmission was designed with cost-effectiveness in mind, leading to compromises in material quality and component size. This Stage 4 package provides a comprehensive solution by enhancing hydraulic control and reinforcing weak hard parts. ATS has meticulously recalibrated the transmission's hydraulic circuits, revamping accumulator rates and clutch apply/release timings, and adjusting line pressure rise rates to perfectly synchronize with increased engine torque. Key hydraulic modifications ensure optimal clutch pack engagement and disengagement. The package addresses critical hard part weaknesses, including light-duty shafts and hubs, and replaces the low one-way sprag with a stronger roller clutch design that offers improved lubrication and torque capacity. Significant upgrades are made to the pump assembly, clutch drum assembly, and clutch packs. The Under Drive clutch pack surface area is increased by 21%, and the Over Drive clutch pack by 17%, utilizing single-sided clutch plates for better control at higher power levels. The 2C and 4C clutch packs see a 34% surface area increase with double-sided frictions. The valve body receives a "BilletProof" channel plate, a 1-inch thick billet-machined aluminum component designed to prevent warping and cross-leaks, with enlarged channels for faster clutch pack filling and improved shift quality. The package also includes a billet input shaft, reinforced forward and intermediate hubs/shafts, and an optional heavy-duty transmission pan that adds 5 quarts of fluid capacity and acts as a girdle to strengthen the case. The Co-Pilot dynamically manages line pressure up to 270+ PSI, ensuring smooth and controllable shifts while preventing clutch slippage under high torque conditions.
