The EMPI 8120 is a 69mm counter-weighted crankshaft engineered for performance in classic air-cooled Volkswagens. Constructed from durable 4140 chromoly steel, this crankshaft features a 69mm stroke, VW main journals, and VW rod journals. Its counter-weighted design significantly reduces power-robbing crank flex, high RPM harmonics, and vibration across the entire power band, making it an excellent choice for racers on a budget. Key features of the EMPI 8120 include radiused standard/standard journals, all journals that are nitrided, precision ground, and micro-polished for enhanced durability and performance. It is also cross-drilled and chamfered for improved oil flow and comes balanced with 8 dowel pins. This crankshaft is designed for Type 1 cases and uses standard size Volkswagen 2.165 journals. Installation of stroker cranks like the EMPI 8120 requires machining of the engine case and potentially other internal components to ensure adequate clearance for the crankshaft and connecting rods.
