7-Speed Builder's Kit

The Baker Drivetrain DD7-M803 Direct Drive 7-Speed Builder's Kit is engineered to upgrade 2006-later big twin 6-speed transmissions into a full 7-speed system. Unlike a deep overdrive, the DD7 shortens 1st gear and tightens the overall ratios, providing smooth, crisp acceleration from 1st through 4th gear, transitioning into relaxed cruising in 5th through 7th gears. This design avoids large RPM drops and lugging the engine at low speeds. The transmission's shifting smoothness and crispness are improved by reducing the mainshaft mass, with only 1st gear integrated into the shaft. This contrasts with stock units where 1st-4th gears are part of a single forging. The DD7 replaces the stock detent arm and spring with a Linear Detent, reducing friction and increasing smoothness, complemented by a new shift drum design. The dog teeth on the gears are tightened to minimize the clacking noise common in factory 6-speed transmissions. Durability and strength are significantly enhanced through the use of a billet bearing door, 28% wider bearings, steel bearing retainer plates, and full-width gears. Helical gears are used in 1st and 4th-7th for a quieter ride, while 2nd and 3rd gears utilize diamond-ground spur gears to handle peak torque. Fitment includes 2007-later Softail, 2007-later Touring (FL, FLT, FLH), and 2006-later Dyna models. It's important to note that this kit *does not fit 2023 and later CVO models*. For Throttle-By-Wire bikes with stock ECMs, cruise control will only function in 7th gear, and the redline will be 5200 RPM; the 6th gear indicator light will illuminate when 7th gear is engaged. To enable full cruise control functionality across all gears and correct the gear indicator, an ECM re-flash is required using compatible tuners like Powervision, ThunderMax, TTS, or Techno Research.
