The Penn Grade 1 77296 is a 12-quart case of classic multi-purpose GL-4 gear oil. It features an SAE 80W-90 viscosity and is made with premium mineral base stocks and select additive technologies.

It is engineered specifically for use with "yellow" metallurgy, such as brass, bronze, and copper, which are common in vintage synchronizers, thrust washers, and bushings. This 12-quart package provides a consistent supply for complete fluid service in older gearboxes. This GL-4 rated lubricant does not contain friction modifiers, as these additives can interfere with proper synchronizer performance. Consequently, it is not intended for use in limited-slip differential applications. Furthermore, this gear oil is not for use in applications requiring API GL-5 quality extreme pressure (EP) lubricants or where OEM specialized fluids are mandated by the manufacturer. This fluid is suitable for a range of heavy-duty and classic manual transmission applications, including those found in various Nissan UD, Mitsubishi Fuso, Volvo, and Mercedes-Benz trucks, where specific compatibility with soft metal components is required.
