The EMPI 00-9293-0 is a 96-plate competition oil cooler kit designed for enhanced engine cooling efficiency. It utilizes a stacked-plate design, renowned for its robust durability and superior cooling capabilities. Constructed from aircraft-grade aluminum with a flux-less oven brazing technique, this oil cooler offers maximum cooling performance and exceptional strength. The cooler features a cross-path airflow design, allowing air to traverse up to 16 paths across embossed plates for efficient oil cooling. Despite its compact dimensions (11" L x 12" W x 1-1/2" H Overall), it delivers double the cooling power while maintaining minimal pressure drop. The kit includes a 12 VDC, 9-inch diameter reversible fan with a maximum airflow of 570 CFM at 5.4 Amps, finished in black to aid in heat dissipation. This kit comes equipped with 1/2" (NPT) female pipe thread fittings. It is important to note that adapters, fittings, and oil hose are not included and must be sourced separately. For optimal installation, the use of mounting dampers is recommended. These oil coolers are manufactured in Canada by Long Industries. An application note specifies that this is considered a universal part, and while it lists applications like VW Bug, Super Beetle, Ghia, Bus, Type 3, Thing, and Vanagon, it is intended for modified vehicles rather than stock configurations.
