The EMPI 9248 is a complete full flow oil cooler kit with an electric fan, designed for air-cooled Volkswagen engines. This kit includes a 96-plate oil cooler, a 9-inch fan, a thermostat, a full flow oil pump cover, an oil return adapter with hardware, and a remote oil filter bracket. It allows for full flow engine cooling without requiring machining and leaves the original oil cooler in place.

The EMPI 9248 Mesa Tru Cool oil cooler kit provides a complete solution for adding a full-flow oil system with an external filter and cooler to air-cooled Volkswagen engines without requiring engine machining. This kit includes a 96-plate oil cooler, a 9-inch electric fan, a thermostat, a full-flow oil pump cover, and an oil return adapter with all necessary hardware. Also included are a remote oil filter bracket and high-temperature oil hose with all the fittings required for a proper installation. The oil cooler itself is constructed from aircraft-quality aluminum with oven-brazed construction, offering excellent strength and resistance to vibration. Its multi-passage design provides superior cooling compared to conventional tube-type oil coolers. The kit allows the engine to run in full-flow mode while leaving the original oil cooler in place. Installation requires the oil pump and case to be threaded and plugged to complete the full-flow system. The cooler measures 12 3/4" in length, 11" in width, and 1 5/8" in height, with 1/2" NPT inlet/outlet ports. Application is specified for All Type 1 VW Bugs, Super Beetles, and Karmann Ghias up through 1979, and all Type 2 VW Buses up through 1971. It is important to note that this kit 'Fits Dual By-Pass Case Only'. When installing fittings into the Mesa oil cooler, it is crucial to use anti-seize lubricant and avoid over-tightening, as this can cause permanent damage and void warranties.
