It is CNC-machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum and uses Grade-8, six-point hex bolts for adjustments. These gears increase horsepower and torque without requiring camshaft changes, making them ideal for engines that are milled, have forced induction, high compression, or utilize aftermarket competition cams.

The Tru-Time Cam Gears enable users to advance or retard cam profiles in one-degree increments, which can lead to increased horsepower and torque without altering the camshaft itself. They feature a multi-spoke, five-bolt design and precision-cut gear teeth to prevent premature wear on the cam gear's belt surface. The adjustment bolts are Grade-8, six-point hex bolts, designed to withstand repeated adjustments, and include an integral washer flange for enhanced load distribution. AEM has been a recognized name in performance parts since its founding in 1987, known for their innovative approach and extensive dyno testing. This adjustable cam gear is specifically designed for Honda D-Series engines, including compatibility with models like the Civic (DX, EX, LX, Si, VX, DXI, LSI, VEI) from 1988-1995, Civic Del Sol (S, Si) from 1993-1997, and CRX (HF, Si) from 1988-1991. It is also noted to be compatible with specific engine codes such as D15B7, D16A6, and D16Z6.
