Air Charge Temperature Sensor

The Bosch 0280130092 is an Air Charge Temperature (ACT) sensor, also referred to as an Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. Its primary function is to measure the temperature of the air entering the engine's intake manifold. This data is critical for the Engine Control Module (ECM) to precisely adjust the air-fuel mixture, ignition timing, and fuel injection rates. Accurate air temperature readings are vital because colder air is denser and requires more fuel, while hotter air is less dense. By providing this information, the ACT sensor enables the ECM to optimize performance, particularly during cold starts and periods of high engine load. A properly functioning sensor ensures efficient combustion and can prevent issues like sluggish acceleration or hesitation. Symptoms of a failing ACT sensor include poor engine performance, reduced fuel efficiency due to an improperly adjusted air-fuel mixture, and a rough idle.
