ARP recommends main studs over bolts for several reasons: more accurate torque readings due to studs not "twisting" into the block, leading to all clamping forces being on one axis; less force exerted on block threads, which improves block life; and easier engine assembly with proper alignment of caps every time. This kit eliminates main cap walk and fretting and protects engine block threads. The studs are made from 8740 chrome-moly steel, heat-treated in-house to 200,000 PSI tensile strength, and feature precision J-form threads rolled after heat-treat, making them significantly stronger. Included in the kit are ARP studs, hardened washers, and high-strength hex nuts.
