The Perrin Oil Cooler Kit is engineered to significantly reduce engine oil temperatures for Subaru WRX (2002-2014) and WRX STI (2004-2021) models, helping to maintain consistent horsepower and prevent oil degradation during demanding driving conditions. Its core is a high-efficiency bar and plate design that maximizes heat dissipation while minimizing flow restriction. A key feature is the integrated 85°C (185°F) thermostat, which ensures the oil reaches its optimal operating temperature before any cooling occurs, promoting engine longevity and consistent performance. The kit utilizes robust materials such as 304 stainless steel for mounting brackets, 6061 T6 aluminum components, and durable Aeroquip -10 AN elastomer hoses protected by Pyrojacket heat shielding. This construction guarantees reliability and longevity even under extreme temperatures. Installation is considered moderately complex, with professional installation recommended for those without extensive mechanical experience. Special tools for hose fittings and oil system bleeding may be necessary. A crucial compatibility note for 2002-2007 WRX and 2004-2007 STI owners is the requirement to use the 2008+ STI coolant crossover pipe (OEM part number 21328AA140) for proper fitment. The kit also requires approximately one quart of additional engine oil upon installation. No ECU tuning is required.
