The BBS RI-A wheel is a result of continuous design innovation and meticulous craftsmanship. Starting with sketches and computer graphics in BBS's design studio, prototypes are created, reflecting over 50 years of BBS history. Each wheel is hand-finished from prototype to mechanical processing. The foundry uses high-precision tools to transform aluminum heated over 1,000 degrees Celsius. The low-pressure casting process forms the wheel blank, which is then cooled and undergoes X-ray inspection. Depending on design, wheels are subjected to thermal treatment (over 500 degrees Celsius for strength, followed by a 150-degree process for six hours) and flow forming, where the rim well is rolled under high pressure to compact the material. Precision machining by specialized CNC machines drills, mills, and turns each wheel to its final dimensions. Finishing includes deburring and quality checks before moving to the paint shop in Herbolzheim, where base coats and desired colors are applied using state-of-the-art technologies for a perfect shine and lasting quality. The processing center offers numerous customization options like burnishing, pad printing, lasering, and ceramic polishing, ensuring high-quality light alloy wheels with unique aesthetics and customization potential.
