It functions similarly to an engine coolant thermostat, opening and closing to control fluid circulation through the oil cooler. This regulation is critical for maintaining transmission service life and preventing premature failure due to overheating. If you suspect issues with transmission temperature regulation or notice leaks, inspecting the oil cooler, its o-rings, and the thermostat for replacement may be necessary.
