The PRL Motorsports Billet Intercooler Upgrade is engineered to combat heat soak in the 2017-2021 Honda Civic Type-R FK8, a common issue that leads to detonation and power loss. This intercooler features a high-density bar-and-plate core measuring 26.5 x 3.5 x 7.25 inches, rated for 550+ horsepower. It significantly increases surface area by 85% and internal flow by 83% compared to the factory unit, ensuring optimal charge air cooling and airflow. Constructed with precisely machined billet aluminum end tanks, this intercooler maximizes efficiency and complements the core's performance. It is compatible with factory charge piping or can be paired with the PRL Motorsports Charge Pipe Upgrade Kit for enhanced performance. Importantly, no ECU calibration is required after installation. This intercooler is CARB Approved with Executive Order D-878, making it 50-State legal. However, it is explicitly stated that this product is NOT LEGAL FOR SALE OR USE IN CALIFORNIA ON ANY EMISSION CONTROLLED MOTOR VEHICLE. Performance benefits include increased turbocharger spool, a reported 3 horsepower and 11 ft-lb torque gain, substantial mid-range power improvements, and significant drops in post-charge air temperature (over 50°F at peak and an average of 32°F). This leads to increased efficiency, more consistent power delivery, and enhanced engine safety.
