If you own a Mk8 or Mk8.5 Golf, you'll notice it comes equipped with a basic manual bonnet prop instead of a gas strut. The Racingline Bonnet Gas Strut conversion kit directly addresses this, upgrading your vehicle to feature a proper gas strut system that lifts and holds the bonnet open on its own. A gas strut utilizes internal pressure to support the weight of the bonnet, enabling it to rise smoothly and remain securely in place. This eliminates the need to manage a prop rod every time you need to access the engine bay for maintenance or checks. Racingline has precisely calibrated the strut's length and pressure to ensure the Mk8 Golf bonnet opens and closes with appropriate resistance, avoiding excessively fast lifting or heavy closure. This conversion offers several benefits, including freeing up both hands when working under the bonnet, replacing the standard prop rod, and enhancing the car's overall premium feel. The kit includes a high-grade stainless steel ball-end bracket that attaches directly to the existing bonnet latch bracket stud. An important fitting note specifies that after installation, the coolant hose should be slightly rotated to prevent any rubbing against the new strut.
