The BC Racing BR Series coilovers provide an affordable yet high-performance suspension solution for the Smart Forfour W453 (2014 onwards). Engineered for fast road use, these coilovers utilize a substantial 46mm diameter piston within a 53mm diameter damper body, maximizing oil capacity to enhance damper performance by reducing peak temperatures. This kit comes with recommended spring rates of 2.5kg/mm front and 7.5kg/mm rear, optimized for a balance of track and street performance. Key features include 30 levels of damping adjustment, ride height adjustability independent of spring preload, pillowball top mounts for improved response, and a patented concave lower locking collar to prevent loosening. The damper units are constructed with black chromed steel and feature anodized aluminum components for corrosion protection. A potential consideration for this specific application is noise transmission. In a small number of cases, the pillowball top mounts can transmit noise into the cabin, described as light knocking. Customers who are concerned about this possibility are advised to consider an alternative kit that reuses OEM top mounts or includes non-camber adjustable rubber top mounts to mitigate this issue. This noise transmission is not considered a product fault and does not affect the general warranty.
