The TCI Breakaway torque converter (PN 242500) is engineered for performance enthusiasts seeking enhanced acceleration and improved low-end power for street machines and weekend racing applications. This 12-inch diameter lock-up unit is designed to provide a flash stall speed of 2400-2600 RPM, offering a significant performance increase over stock converters. Constructed with durability and efficiency in mind, the Breakaway converter features furnace-brazened fins, needle bearings, and a hardened, pre-ground pump hub. It is computer balanced to ensure smooth operation and longevity. The design aims to balance efficiency during highway cruising with strong launches at wide-open throttle. This torque converter is specifically compatible with GM 700R4, 200C, and 2004R transmissions with a 27-spline input shaft and a 1.703-inch crank pilot. It is designed for use with Chevrolet V8 and 4.3L V6 engines and is suitable for rear gear ratios ranging from 3.00 to 3.73. The expected stall speed can vary, with estimates of 2200-2400 RPM for small blocks and 2400-2600 RPM for big blocks. Installation is described as bolt-in with no modifications required for compatible transmissions.
