Cable Shifter Kit

The Novak SK2XC cable shifter was engineered by Novak to permanently solve the shifting problems common to factory linkages in Jeep NP231 and NP242 transfer cases. The kit features a precision-engineered design to eliminate binding, slop, and kick-outs, along with an aircraft-grade cable for low-friction, smooth operation. The brackets are constructed from welded 3/16" steel with black zinc plating for trail-ready durability. The complete kit includes all necessary components for a successful installation, which is straightforward with basic hand tools and can typically be completed in an afternoon. Skid plate removal may be required. This upgrade is known to dramatically improve shifting for Jeeps with body lifts, drivetrain conversions, long-arm kits, or aging factory linkages. It replaces all linkage components below the shift handle while fully retaining the factory hand lever for a clean, OEM appearance. The SK2XC restores precise shifting, ideal for conversion transmissions or modified drivetrain geometry, and eliminates binding, excess play, and unwanted kick-outs. It maintains the factory Jeep shift pattern (2H front, 4L rear) and does not require front driveshaft or yoke removal, nor console removal. Compatible Jeeps include 1997–2006 TJ & LJ Wranglers, 1988+ XJ Cherokees, MJ Comanches, and 1993–1998 ZJ Grand Cherokees. It fits Jeep 6-bolt NP/NVG transfer cases (231, 242, and similar, 1988+). Note that this kit is not compatible with the NP241OR transfer case; the SK3XR should be used for that application. It is also compatible with many Dodge and AMG cases with the same bolt pattern. Because the transfer case bracket mounts independently of the transmission, it works with nearly every transmission configuration.
