Camshafts

By modifying lobe profiles, duration, and lift, these aftermarket camshafts work in conjunction with upgraded valve springs to deliver enhanced performance. ZZP provides specialized profiles optimized for both supercharged and turbocharged setups, allowing for better tuning to your specific power adder. For supercharged applications, the Stage 1 cams are recommended for most builds, aiming to raise the powerband by approximately 500 RPM. The Stage 2 cams represent the next level, increasing the powerband by 700-1000 RPM and targeting peak power between 7500-7800 RPM. Use of an ATI balancer is required with Stage 2 cams to mitigate engine vibrations at these elevated RPMs. The Stage 3 cams are intended for extreme race applications, not street use, due to their very high RPM powerband, as demonstrated in a 401whp, stroked 2.4-liter drag car making peak power at 8500 RPM. For turbocharged LSJ engines, the Stage 2 turbo cams offer 212/212 duration at .050" lift with .419 lift and centerlines at 109 intake/115 exhaust. These have shown good results in modified street cars. The Stage 3 turbo Reverse Split cams feature 218/210 duration at .050" lift with .437/424" lift and are designed for race setups with large exhaust wheels and free-flowing exhausts. When replacing your cams, it is essential to also replace your valve springs and retainers; ZZP recommends their 82# valve springs and retainers. Additionally, it is highly recommended to remove or replace the stock balance shafts with ZZP's neutral balance shafts or balance shaft delete kit. The stock camshaft bolts are torque-to-yield and must be replaced; ZZP offers upgraded non-TTY bolts for this purpose. Our cams are manufactured with the correct keyway location, eliminating the need for adjustable cam gears for proper timing. GM Performance cams were found to not perform well on LSJ applications.
