The SunCoast Category 3 5R110 transmission is a robust upgrade engineered to handle up to 600hp in 4WD applications. This transmission takes performance to the next level with the inclusion of a billet Vascomax input shaft, billet ring gear hub, and a billet rear overdrive planet. These billet components are crucial for withstanding increased torsional stress from higher horsepower and torque, especially when paired with larger wheels and tires or aftermarket tuning. SunCoast has implemented proprietary modifications to the transmission's pump and valve body, ensuring clean, crisp, and accurate shifts under demanding conditions. Key internal upgrades include a Low/Reverse Clutch Pack with 6 clutches and 6 Kolene Steels, an Overdrive Clutch Pack with 5 clutches and 4 Kolene Steels, and a Wide Load Direct Clutch Pack with 5 frictions and 5 steels, all designed for superior durability and performance. The transmission also features a SunCoast No Walk Center Support to correct case distortion and maintain proper fluid feed to critical clutch packs, preventing premature failure. To further enhance reliability and power transfer, a billet flexplate is recommended for this transmission. The direct one-piece billet ring gear hub, precision-machined from 4140 HTSR steel, is designed to withstand significant additional torque, making it ideal for heavy-duty towing and high-performance applications. The factory input shaft, often a weak point, is replaced with a billet shaft made from 300 Maraging steel for maximum strength and resistance to torsional fatigue. The billet overdrive planet housing is also a standard feature, eliminating spline failures and shattering under heavy loads. This transmission is specifically designed for the 5R110W platform, which replaced the 4R100 in 2003 and features advanced adaptive control shift functions. The No Walk Center Support is a critical correction for the 5R110W's known tendency for case distortion and center support displacement, which can lead to misalignment of fluid feed holes. By correcting this, SunCoast ensures consistent hydraulic integrity and clutch engagement. The inclusion of a Mag-Hytec deep pan further increases case rigidity and reduces torsional flexing.
