The Clutch Masters FX850 is an 8.5" (216mm) Twin Disc clutch kit designed for high-performance street applications and racing, particularly for engines/transmissions with smaller bell-housings. This "Street" version (TD8S) incorporates one sprung ceramic disc directly connected to one fiber tuff rigid disc. The FX850 series is engineered to handle significant horsepower and torque while maintaining reasonable pedal pressure. It achieves this by increasing the clamping force of the pressure plate and expanding the usable disc area, resulting in an average of 50% increase in pedal pressure depending on the application. The cover assembly is precision-machined from billet aluminum and Type 3 hard anodized, offering approximately 25% greater tensile strength than typical cast units. This billet construction minimizes flex in the cover (down to 0.003" compared to 0.030" for cast units), leading to more consistent and confident clutch operation. The FX850 Twin Disc can also be upgraded to a DLX series, which provides inherent dampening for both discs by directly connecting a rigid disc to a sprung-hub disc, enhancing drivetrain shock protection. A unique feature of Clutch Masters multi-disc kits is the QR (Quick Release) Pressure Plate system, utilizing three spring-loaded bolts for even and smooth engagement/disengagement and up to a 50% reduction in internal clutch noise/chatter.
