The FTE clutch slave cylinder is a crucial hydraulic component for your BMW's manual transmission, responsible for operating the release bearing fork. This part, manufactured in Germany to OE quality standards, directly controls the shift fork within the bellhousing. When the clutch pedal is pressed, hydraulic fluid is sent to the slave cylinder, which then moves the release fork to disengage the clutch, enabling smooth gear changes. A failure in the clutch slave cylinder can lead to several symptoms, including difficulty shifting gears, a soft or spongy clutch pedal, or the pedal sticking to the floor. These issues arise because the cylinder can no longer build adequate hydraulic pressure to fully disengage the clutch. This FTE slave cylinder is designed to replace OE part numbers 21521159045, 21521159530, 21521161530, and 21521164916. This slave cylinder is compatible with a wide range of BMW E36 models, including the 318i, 318is, 318ti, 320i, 323i, 323is, 325i, and 328i, across various model years from the early 1990s to the late 1990s, and also fits select Z3 models. It is recommended to also consider replacing the clutch master cylinder when servicing the slave cylinder to ensure optimal clutch system performance.
