Cold Air Intake

The GrimmSpeed Cold Air Intake offers a hybrid solution for 2005-2009 Subaru Legacy GT and Outback XT models, aiming to combine the advantages of cold air and short ram intakes while eliminating compromises. It features an aluminum heat shield, laser-cut and CNC-bent, finished with a heavy-duty black texture powdercoat. The MAF flanges are CNC-machined from 6061 aluminum, and the intake tube is custom-bent for optimal MAF diameter. An included air straightener, also made from 6061 aluminum, mimics the factory configuration for accurate MAF sensor readings. The MAF sensor is positioned inside the heat shield, isolated from engine bay heat, and a custom reusable high-flow air filter with a velocity stack entrance smooths incoming air. Designed with tuners in mind, this intake provides consistent airflow through the MAF sensor, making it predictable and easier to tune compared to the stock airbox. GrimmSpeed states it provides an additional 21whp at peak and up to 30whp earlier in the powerband when compared to another popular intake using the same recommended COBB OTS Stg2 93OCT +SF Map. However, they strongly recommend a professional tune for optimal performance, as runs without a custom tune can be very rich and leave power on the table. Dyno testing was performed on a 2012 WRX with a GrimmSpeed 3-Port EBCS, Catted Downpipe, Catless Uppipe, and TMIC. Installation is estimated at 30 minutes and is supported by written and video guides. Crucially, tuning is required for this intake, as it is not compatible with the factory tune or any off-the-shelf maps.
