The Cometic C4978-040 is a Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket designed for specific VW and Audi 2.0L engines. It is constructed with three to five layers of stainless steel for increased strength, rebound, and corrosion resistance. The outer layers are embossed and coated with Viton rubber, which is heat-resistant up to 250°C (482°F).

This gasket plays a crucial role in preventing the mixture of gases and oils with the cooling system.
