Old standard shims often fail under the extreme spring pressures and high RPMs of modern race engines. COMP Cams offers a solution with these valve spring locators, which are thin, hardened steel alloy seats. They properly locate and hold the spring in place while protecting the cylinder head and shim. Traditionally, such parts were only available in a cup form with an external retaining portion, necessitating significant machining of the head. COMP Cams now provides an ID locator with the locating shoulder on the inside, similar to a spring cup. These ID locators can usually be installed without requiring machine work.
