Compressors are pre-labeled for oil charge (Yellow/Orange: drain and add per OE spec; Pink: pre-charged with 3 oz R134a PAG oil; Green: pre-charged with 3oz PAG oil for R1234yf). Emphasizes that servicing is complex, requiring special tools and technical info. Proper A/C performance depends on all systems working correctly. A clean A/C system is imperative to prevent premature failure; recommends cleaning with approved A/C cleaning agent or replacing contaminated parts. Most modern condensers (post-2002) are difficult to clean and must be replaced. Replace filter drier or accumulator and inspect control devices (orifice tube, thermal expansion valve). Proper evacuation with a vacuum pump for at least 45 minutes is necessary. Adequate lubrication is critical; refer to under-hood decal or OE service manual for proper lubricant type and amount. For compressors without an oil port, add half the required system oil in the suction side port and turn the compressor shaft. For compressors with an oil port, remove the port bolt and add half the required system oil, with the remainder added in the accumulator or evaporator. Place compressor with front seal/clutch face down for 1-3 minutes to lubricate the seal. Use only recommended refrigerant type and amount. Rotate compressor shaft at least 10 revolutions prior to starting the engine. Compressor clutch operation is tested at manufacture; verify proper coil voltage (11.5 to 13v) if necessary. Check hub to pulley clearance prior to install.
