Description

The Dana 300 is a durable cast iron transfer case found in 1980-1986 Jeep vehicles (CJ5, CJ7, CJ8) and 1980 IH Scouts. It features a passenger-side front output, centered rear output, and a round, six-bolt front mounting face. The input shaft has 23 female splines (factory dress), and the helical input gear is on 30 splines. It weighs 85 lbs and is approximately 16" wide, factory clocked to 23 degrees down. The Dana 300 offers dual modes (2wd + 4wd) and dual ranges (Hi + Lo), with a 1:1 high range and a 2.62:1 low range. Both front and rear output yokes are 1310, and output shafts are 26 splines. There are two main versions: a shorter 1980 version (~10-1/2" long) potentially with Jeep #5361332 or casting #C300-15-2, and a longer 1981+ version (~11-5/8" long) designed to house a larger speedometer driven gear. It was factory paired with transmissions like the SR4, T4, T5, T176, and TF999 in CJs.
