CR170 Hybrid Turbocharger

The Borg Warner CR170 Hybrid turbocharger, part number 03L253016G, is an upgraded turbo designed for Common Rail VW TDIs featuring CBEA or CJAA engine codes. This XR1 hybrid variant utilizes billet wheels to achieve a flow rate comparable to a CR190 turbo, offering an enhancement over the standard CR170 and serving as an OEM upgrade for the 140HP engine. A key benefit of this hybrid turbo is its ability to maintain lower Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs), making it particularly useful for towing applications or engine swaps into heavier vehicles. While designed to drop in like a CR170, this turbocharger requires modifications for installation. It will not directly connect to the stock inlet tube or low-pressure EGR, and the high-pressure EGR port is located on the opposite side compared to the stock turbocharger. Additionally, the outlet is not compatible with the OEM outlet dampener found on models manufactured before July 20, 2009. Significant modifications will be necessary for proper fitment. The turbo is also known to require a downpipe, such as a Rawtek, and a turbo inlet pipe and elbow adapter (part number 3C0129654AJ). This turbocharger fits the following vehicles: 2009-2014 VW Jetta TDI, 2009-2014 VW Golf TDI, and 2012-2014 VW New Beetle TDI. For vehicles built before July 20, 2009, a new turbo outlet dampener (part number 03L131111Q) is required. It comes with a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty against manufacturing defects.
