The Valeo heater core is a direct replacement component for various Volkswagen models, including the Passat, Jetta, Golf, Corrado, Cabrio, and Beetle. This part functions as a small radiator within the vehicle's HVAC system, utilizing hot engine coolant to warm the air that is then directed into the cabin by the blower motor. Symptoms of a failing heater core include a weak or absent heat output in the cabin, a distinct sweet or musty smell of antifreeze within the interior, and fogged-up windows caused by coolant vapor. The unit is manufactured in Germany and comes with a 2-year/24,000-mile warranty. Note that the installation may require an additional vacuum hose adaptor (part number 1H0 820 233).
